Meet our co-chairs

11 Aug Meet our co-chairs

As the new Co-Chairs of TEDxUTSC 2018, Nirusaa and Zarin are excited to take on this role and hope to continue the TEDxUTSC purpose of spreading ideas. They hope to use the unfiltered ideas and stories around them to facilitate discussion that opens the minds of UTSC students.

Nirusaa is a 4th year Co-op Management student currently pursuing her accounting specialization. While working with numbers has always been a fascination of hers, her main aspiration is to use her financial background to assist others in the process of reaching their own dreams. When she is not shrieking at horror movies with her friends, she is usually packing her bags trying to prepare for a spontaneous trip. She enjoys the thrill of facing her fears and hopes to build the courage to go bungee jumping one day.

Zarin is in her 4th year doing a specialist in Socio-Cultural Anthropology. This is her third year working in TEDxUTSC and she’s excited to be part of a new role. Zarin believes that learning new perspectives and trying new things is what makes you grow as a person. When she isn’t caught marathoning a Norwegian TV show called SKAM of frantically taking notes for her classes, she can be seen with nose buried in a book or covered in water colours from an impromptu paint session.

TEDxUTSC for Zarin and Nirusaa is about bringing exciting and thought provoking insights into light. They hope to generate conversations not only amongst the UTSC community, but also worldwide. Zarin and Nirusaa believe that every idea is worth sharing. All stories matter and all voices need to be heard. They want to create a platform that welcomes discussion about an array of topics that represents the diversity at UTSC.

Nirusaa and Zarin think female empowerment between and amongst young women should be encouraged. As girls themselves, they understand the lack of female representation in leadership positions. Nirusaa and Zarin want to inspire others like them to become leaders and take part in their community. They want students to have the courage to follow their passions and accomplish their goals.

TEDxUTSC aims to be a space that fosters growth and learning amongst team members. For Zarin, TEDxUTSC is a place that challenges her to think differently of the world around her. For Nirusaa, TEDxUTSC is an accepting space where she can have enlightening conversations with others who are equally open-minded. The leads and executives are important members of the team who create the body of the conference and bring it life. The associates on the other hand, act as the heart of the team that keeps everything flowing and in order. Zarin and Nirusaa hope that anyone who is thinking of applying for an associate position understands that it is the perfect opportunity to be a part of something amazing.
