How To Get Away With School

14 Sep How To Get Away With School

Hey folks! It’s that time of the year again, yes you guessed it. Back. To. School. But do not fret! TEDxUTSC is here to help you with the following tips.

1. Utilize campus resources: Credits! program requirements! Deadlines! OSAP! UTSC has several resources on campus to help you so you don’t feel overwhelmed by everything. These resources include The Academic Advising and Career centre (AA&CC), The Registrar, the Department of Student Life (DSL). Information on all of these resources can be found here http://www.utsc.utoronto.ca/campus-life/student-support

2. Go to Health and Wellness: Whether you are down with the flu or need to take a mental health day, Health and Wellness can provide you with the appropriate aid that you need. They provide you with medical services, one-on-one or group counselling, and assessment and treatments for any number of health concerns. Information on health and wellness can be found here http://www.utsc.utoronto.ca/hwc/.(Besides you may as well go considering these services are included in your tuition)

3. Planners and Bullet Journals: Planners and bullet journals can be your best friend in university. Keeping track of assignments, exams, events, etc can really help you get organized so you don’t feel like you’re drowning in your many responsibilities.

4. Schedule Your Downtime: Life can often get away from you, so schedule a few hours a week (in your planners *wink wink*) for some down time. Remember, self-care is important! So whether it is a night out with friends, or some time alone regrouping and organizing your thoughts, just do it! You will not regret it.

5. Be Okay with a Drop in Your Grades: As you start your academic career, you will go through an adjustment period where you will notice a drop in your grades, but thats okay! You can always bring up your final grade with other assignments as well as extra credit.

6. Seek Guidance from Professors and TAs: Professors and TA’s have office times that student rarely, if ever, use. Go talk to them about any confusion you may be having about the course material, most of them are very nice and approachable!

7. Get Involved: Clubs, Departmental Student Associations, and Administration hold fun campus events throughout the year where you can meet with your fellow students and create a solid support network.
