FAQs

What does the team structure look like?

The 2015 Executive Team has a 3-tiered system. The Chair and the Team Leads make up the Leadership Team. Each Lead will be working with their Directors to accomplish the overall organizational goals and provide the resources to facilitate the Directors in making their ideas a reality. Although each role is divided up in teams, everyone needs to work closely together to make the Conference a success.

What academic background are you looking for?

We welcome students from each and every department and academic background in our team. What makes TEDxUTSC so unique is that it does not focus on one particular discipline and all ideas are welcome! The collective genius from all fields is needed to make the Conference a success!

Do you require references?

We do not require them when submitting your applications. However, it would be good practice to have one or two references on hand for your interview.

When will I be contacted for the interview?

Only successful candidates will be invited for an interview within the first week of May.

What is the structure of the interview?

The interview will be 30-40 minutes where you will be asked several behavioural and situational questions. We will also chat with you about your past experiences to test your suitability for the team. You will be interviewed by the 2015 Chair and a member of the Advisory Board.

Are there opportunities to take on tasks beyond my role?

The TEDxUTSC experience is what you make of it. There are ample opportunities for growth and to take on tasks that are beyond your designated roles. You will get the best experience out of the team if you take initiative and are always eager to find new ways to make the Conference a smashing success!

What is the time commitment for TEDxUTSC?

The hours of commitment vary and depend on the roles you will be taking on. The weeks leading up to the Conference will definitely require a higher rate of commitment from each and every team member.

Is the University involved in organizing the Conference?

TEDxUTSC is a student run group. However, the previous years of the Conference would not have been possible without the generous support of UTSC staff/faculty and those partnerships will definitely continue and evolve in 2015.

In its first year, TEDxUTSC set a precedent for collaboration among students, staff, faculty, and the greater community at UTSC.

  • Advisory Board – Students actively worked with 15 staff members from 12 Departments at UTSC. Not every TEDx university event involves their staff and faculty as active members of their TEDx event.

We look forward to maintain these relationships and create more in the 2014-2015 year. As part of the team, you will get the exclusive opportunity to work closely with the University to make the Conference a reality.
